Dr.Rana has had a distinguished career in the Government of Kenyaserving as a senior representative of his government at variousinternational organizations, including the WTO and the UN. He iscurrently the Patron of Kisumu Agricultural StakeholdersOrganization which is a non-profit community based forum that isaddressing challenges faced by farmers at thegrassroots. Hewas appointed Deputy Director-General of the World TradeOrganization in October 2002 where he was head of the DevelopmentDepartment of the organization. He has had a distinguished careerin the Government of Kenya. After serving as Deputy Head of Missionin Tokyo (1993-1996), Dr Rana was appointed Deputy PermanentRepresentative to the UN in New York and AlternateDelegate/Coordinator of the Kenyan Delegation to the UN SecurityCouncil (1997). Hereturned briefly to Nairobi in 1998 to serve as PermanentSecretary, Office of the President, Development Coordination,before being appointed Ambassador/Permanent Representative to theUN in Geneva and Vienna (1998-2000). Dr Rana's academicqualifications include a Bachelor of Arts (Hon) from University ofNairobi, Master of Arts in Political Science (1975) and a Doctorateof Philosophy in Political Science from the University ofCalifornia at Los Angeles (1990).
