    BME Concern, a UK registeredcharity which delivers its projects in Africa under the nameRipples in Africa, and currently operatesas Ripples Ghana, Ripples Cameroon and Ripples Nigeria. Ripples supports over 5, 300 women in the 3 countries, giving thema 'Hand-up', and not a'Hand-out', offering training to help them towork their way out of poverty.  Ripples is expanding to moreAfrican countries, but continue to be challenged by the lack offunds to help these desperately poor African villagewomen.The average village womanhas no access to basic amenities; no water, light or accessibleroads.  They have 5-14 children, with over 50% mortalityrate.  Many children don’t make it to their 5th birthday. Fromage 5, they walk 6-7 miles to fetch water, peddle/hawk tocontribute to the family income, and have to endure a 6 mile roundtrip walk to go to School, to get educated.The African village womanlive on less than a $1/day, has no access to capital, no help, andmost are the breadwinners for their families. These are very hardworking women, just surviving and trying to feed their children andput them through school, against all these odds.Our Charity supports theAfrican village women by offering them Micro-finance underour Village Enterprise Programme, to set uptheir own businesses.
