South Africa has 116 000unqualified teachers. These teachers have time till April2014 to start with a teaching qualification. In failingto do so, they will not get registered as teacher and consequentlylose their jobs.Should these teachers lose their jobs, it willlead to many schools not have teachers to teach and would have toclose down.Their inability to embark on a teacher trainingprogram is based purely on the non-availability of upfrontfunding. Most of these unqualified teachers are based atschools in rural areas and mostly financiallychallenged. Toenrol a teacher requires R20k x 3 yrs =R60k.Should these teachers not be in a position toobtain qualifications, it will kill our schools and deprive kidsfrom valuable education.
