Kandil’s history goes way back to the mid 19th century. The nameKandil carries a strong history on its own, as a company, openingits doors to the market in 1865, a century where such an industrywas still new, manufacturing manual and primitive agriculturalmachinery which later on were changed to semi-automatic ones, thenon to boilers in the early 1900s; and then finally focusing onsteel since 1960. Kandil represented a pillar within theindustrialization of the Egyptian market, a genuine regional steelplayer.Mr. Mohy Kandil III came back, after attaining his BA degree inEconomics from France, affected by the industrial revolution. Hecame with a vision of being part of an industrial revolution inEgypt, but was held back by the limitations caused by the politicalregime at that time. But with a solid dream and dedication, hestarted trading in flat steel, initiating a small workshop forprocessing steel sheets while concentrating mainly on prime qualitymaterial which gave the family a strong presence and reputation inthe Egyptian market.Taking it a step further, after 2 years from graduation inMechanical Engineering, Eng. Khalil the elder son took theinitiative to start his first service center in the early 1980'sin an old industrial city in Kalyoub with a primitive cutting lineand some processing machines. Amr the younger son, followed fewyears later and took charge of all the commercial business. Withtime, the focus began to change from importing to manufacturing;Kandil initiated the first privately owned cold rolling mill inEgypt with a capacity which was then expanded to cover 40% of thelocal market.The year 2003 was a huge leap for Kandil, it set up its firstgalvanizing line with a production capacity of 65'000 Mtons. Basedon a very strategic export plan, Kandil built its name as areliable coated steel supplier, in both European and Middle Easternmarkets.The company's current production capacity exceeds 350'000Mtons/year with more than 55% dedicated to export. The company hasa sold plan to reach 1'000'000 Mtons/year in 2010, of cold rolledand coated products.
