Cafe Historia 1492 is a brand produced and distributed by Comercializadora Oro Verde S. A., a company of Italian and Costa Rican ownership legally registered in Costa Rica under Cedula Juridica number 3-101-575455.
Since its founding in 2001, Oro Verde has operated coffee and other hot beverages vending machines throughout Costa Rica. The leading brands of coffee were used on these vending machines, but the people at Oro Verde were never completely satisfied. If they wanted a coffee blend that was simply perfect for the vending machines, they would have to create it themselves, and that was what they did.
In 2005 Oro Verde established an alliance with a group of coffee growers from Los Santos, a Costa Rican region that is well known internationally for its excellent high altitude coffee. Together, they ran multiple tests until they found the perfect roast to achieve the best possible flavor and aroma in the cups of coffee prepared with the machines.
The results where so good and the demand so high, that in 2008 the coffee was given its own brand - Cafe Historia 1492 - and the company started selling it to the general public as a whole bean, but soon two more varieties were added: One especially formulated for the European market, where Napolitan and other machines are used, and a second one, more finely ground for the Costa Rican market, where coffee makers are widely used.
