iReport - Excel Utility for Mainframes

I have been working on IBM Mainframes since 2 years now. There are many things which we feel is quite repetitive and sometimes tedious to do in our day to day work.

So i started building an Excel utility using VBA which could address these problems and could possibly simplify the piece of work. To start with, JOBLOG scan for failed jobs is the one which i felt is repetitive - Now here was the simple solution using an excel tool for mainframes job scan - iReport ('i' means LIVE in iReport).

iReport Tool is a simple tool for mainframes which will scan the job spool in joblogs and then it will generate an excel report. The report will say if there are/is any delays in scanned job(s) or if there are job(s) failure(s).

There are many features built into this tool, a few which i would like to quote is :-
1. An easy to use excel utility.
2.Takes few minutes for the entire job scan.
3.Generate the report and on a click of a button sends the report to the intended mail recipients.
4.Automated, Efficient and Easy to maintain excel tool for mainframes.
5.Delay information, CPU time consumption and many more info on screen at your fingertips.

This is my first excel tool for mainframes, so i wanted to see if i get any response from you people...

When in doubt, just take the next small step. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch. Pay off your credit cards every month. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present. It's OK to let your children see you cry. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it. No one is in charge of your happiness but you. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?' Always choose life. Forgive everyone everything. What other people think of you is none of your business. Time heals almost everything. Give time time. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. Believe in miracles. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young. Your children get only one childhood. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need. The best is yet to come... No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.   Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift.

A new angle to look for - Must read!

May be an angle that we have not understood at all.

A teacher teaching Maths to seven-year-old Arnav asked him, “If I give you one apple and one apple and one apple, how many apples will you have?”

With a few seconds Arnav replied confidently, “Four!” The dismayed teacher was expecting an effortless correct answer (three). She was disappointed. “May be the child did not listen properly,” she thought. She repeated, “Arnav, listen carefully. It is very simple. You will be able to do it right if you listen carefully. If I give you one apple and one apple and one apple, how many apples will you have?”

Arnav had seen the disappointment on his teacher’s face. He calculated again on his fingers. But within him he was also searching for the answer that will make his teacher happy. This time hesitatingly he replied, “Four...”   The disappointment stayed on teacher’s face. She remembered Arnav loves strawberries. She thought maybe he doesn’t like apples and that is making him lose focus. This time with exaggerated excitement and twinkling eyes she asked, “If I give you one strawberry and one strawberry and one strawberry, then how many will Arnav have?”  Seeing the teacher happy, young Arnav calculated on his fingers again. There was no pressure on him, but a little on the teacher. She wanted her new approach to succeed. With a hesitating smile young Arnav enquired, “Three?”

The teacher now had a victorious smile. Her approach had succeeded. She wanted to congratulate herself. But one last thing remained. Once again she asked him, “Now if I give you one apple and one apple and one more apple how many will you have?” Promptly Arnav answered, “Four!”

The teacher was aghast. “How Arnav, how?” she demanded in a little stern and irritated voice. In a voice that was low hesitating young Arnav replied, “Because I already have one apple in my bag.”

Moral of the story:

When someone gives us an answer that is different from what we are expecting, not necessarily they are wrong. There may be an angle that we have not understood at all.

Whatever we receive is INFORMATION. Whatever we preserve is KNOWLEDGE. Whatever we use is WISDOM. And HOW & WHEN we use it our INTELLIGENCE.
