About the designer
Monique Whyms, a self-taught jewelry designer, started jewelry making as a means of earning extra * that would allow her to care for her sons, as a single mother. At the time Monique was working full time as a certified nail technician. It was during this time that, while doing a client's nails and trying to sell her handcrafted jewelry from the space she rented, that she was informed about a tradeshow that was to take place on Fort Charlotte during the summer of 2001. . . this would begin the many tradeshows she now takes part in.
It was not until the christmas 2001 tradeshow held at Cable Beach that Pinksand Jewels & Accessories was brought to a wider spectrum of potential retail buyers as well as wholesale buyers. This was also the year that Monique decided to give handcrafted gifts for Christmas presents.
Two years later, Monique decided to resign and close the doors of her nail salon, and persue the jewelry making business full-time, selling her handcrafted jewelry both locally and internationally and in the retail and wholesale market.
Because of the uniqueness of the her handcrafted jewelry, they are well sorted after. Currently items from the Pinksand Jewels Collection are available in a number of stores in Nassau and the family of islands, and are worn by local clients as well as clients from around the world, which includes, Canada, Italy, Spain, Germany, and Washington just to name a few.
All designs in the Pinksand Jewels Collection was handcrafted with the highest quality of jewelry findings. A variety of semi precious gemstones, fresh water pearls, and bead components are used in the productions of each unique and exclusive piece of Pinksand Jewel. However, the beads and pendants used in the production of the Pinksand Jewel Collection that gives the piece its uniqueness would be the handcrafted sand beads and pendants. These beads are handrolled from The Harbour Island Pinksand, The Brownsand that is found on one of our local beaches called South Beach, and white sand from Grand Bahama which was dyed to create all the beautiful colors of sand jewelry
