The Office of the U.S. Trade Representative has decided to end more than 100 exemptions for products from China subject to Section 301 tariffs while maintaining others for another year, the agency announced on Friday.
The council will meet on June 11 to discuss commercial ties to the Indo-Pacific and U.S. services trade, as well as report on a recent fact-finding trip to Thailand.
The regulation is set to go into full effect at the end of the year.
The talks in Kenya will “primarily cover five topics: (1) agriculture; (2) customs, trade facilitation, and enforcement; (3) environment; (4) good regulatory practices, and (5) workers’ rights and protections.”
The legislation “encourages ‘nearshoring’ of the semiconductor supply chain ... to combat China’s growing global influence while complementing domestic investments made under the CHIPS and Science Act.”
