Madecaju was formed in 1998 by owner and CEO, Alvaro Martins. Martins had gained several years of experience managing a large cashew processing plant before deciding to branch off and form his own company. Madecaju, began operations in the country capital, Maputo, and catered to the local market, selling processed nut flavored with salt, hot pepper, chocolate and sugar crunch. During it's time in Maputo, Madecaju became one of the largest suppliers of cashew nut to hotels, supermarkets and corner grocery stores in the area. In 2006, Martins saw opportunity to break into the exporting market. He moved his operations to Manjacaze, a rural area in southern Mozambique that is very rich in cashew and reopened the local factory nine years after it had closed its doors. The factory currently employs over 200 operators. Nuts are shelled by semi-mechanical cutting machines, skinned and then categoriezed by grade before they are vacuum sealed for shipment. Nuts are packaged in 25 LB vacuum sealed bags and boxed two bags per box.
